2024 Update: Please Read!

The 6-Week Course (everything you need to know to start your freelance medical writing business) was created before the arrival of ChatGPT and other generative AI programs. The course is still valid, but do check out learnamastyle.com for an additional offering that addresses generative AI in medical writing.

If you’re reading this, you may have heard about my 6-Week Course, which has helped hundreds of people transition into a career in freelance medical writing.

I can’t help everyone though. You will need to have a background in science, such as an MD, PharmD, or a science PhD, as well as native-level English and writing ability. If you have that background, the course will help you transition into running your own freelance medical writing business.

If you are a burned out healthcare provider or scientist, this course will be life changing! With some dedication and effort you’ll be able to get right into this lucrative work-from-anywhere career that will allow you to spend time with your loved ones and work on your own schedule

It’s not just any career, but one that will use your scientific background and won’t waste all those hard-earned years in medical school or graduate school. And not only that, you can easily make 6 figures. And I do mean easily with a full time effort.

There’s no “free” lunch, but there is lunch 🙂 I hope you will allow me to be your guide.

With the 6-Week Course, you will…

  • learn everything you need to know to set up your freelance medical writing business with self-paced online modules teaching you about the field of medical writing
  • be able to access our private members-only platform, make connections with medical writers, and get your questions answered
  • attend regular Q&A calls about medical writing led by Dr. Hitt Nichols
  • prepare samples as part of the course, get feedback, and then use these samples to get work from prospective clients
  • have the opportunity to subcontract as a medical writer with Dr. Hitt Nichols’ company, Nascent Medical, LLC.*

My mission is to help people with a scientific or medical background and writing ability to create a life they love working remotely in the lucrative field of medical communications.

Although I went to an excellent graduate school, it was a pretty miserable experience. One day in lab, I was about to quit because I just couldn’t see how I could keep going. But I also didn’t want to waste all the years I had spent slogging away at it either. It struck me that I had always loved writing, and I wondered if I could somehow combine writing with science. It turned out that science writing (which for me, later became medical writing) was a “thing,” and the rest, well… here we are.

With renewed purpose, I made myself finish my PhD, and I vowed at that time that if I could make something of this medical writing career, that I would always try to give back to those who were also struggling on their path and for whom this work might be a good fit. It turns out there are so many doctors, grad students, post docs, and academics who do not love what they do. Medicine, in particular, seems to have become increasingly burdensome to those who practice it.

I spent the first few years as a full-time freelance medical writer, and in recent years have been running my company, Nascent Medical, LLC, which continues to grow beyond any expectation that I ever had. Many people who go through my course end up having Nascent as one of their first clients which is amazingly gratifying, I hope for them, but definitely for me.

I am so fortunate because of my career choice to spend all kinds of time with my dear hubby, Nick, and my daughter, Madeleine, whose school bus I have met daily since kindergarten, and who now, remarkably, is driving.

With this course and your effort, I hope I can help you achieve the same kind of remote work-life balance using your science background and writing ability to make an excellent income.  Check out the free content here

* Please note: acceptance as a Nascent Medical subcontractor is contingent upon passing 5 of the 6 feedback modules, having an advanced science degree, and writing with fluent, native-level English. We will be able to tell if writing is non-native through feedback tests. You can still sign up, but we will not be able to give you work if your English is non-native. We do have writers who are non-native, but we can’t tell that from their writing. About one-third of people who sign up to the course finish 5 out of 6 feedback tests, and so far, all of them have received work with Nascent Medical. If you sign up, we are under no obligation to give you work or to keep giving you work, but most of our subcontractors end up working with us for months to years and migrate away because they have too much work from other clients.
